A sweet topping bursting with flavor…that’s what you’ll get when you taste this mixed berry compote!
Ahh, berries…I could eat them every day of the year and not get tired of them. When I was young our family had woods behind our house (my playground). Walking in the woods you could find wild blackberries, raspberries and strawberries. I couldn’t wait for berries to be in season so I could take my bowl/bucket and pick berries. The point was to bring some home for my mom to make a pie. We made it home…but to say all the berries made it home is a different story!
There are so many recipes out there for berry compotes, berry sauce and toppings, but alot of them are filled with added sugar. I love this recipe because the only “sugar” in it is all-natural from the berries. I added a 1/4 teaspoon of THM Super Sweet (the perfect amount in my opinion) and just a tiny amount of orange extract.
There’s just enough orange extract to make this compote pop with fresh flavor. Oh, did I mention that you don’t need fresh berries for this recipe? I always have a bag or two of frozen berries in my freezer. Fresh berries can be expensive when they are not in season, so frozen is the way to go!
I have a family who loves berries, well, my husband will tolerate them, but he’s not a big fan 🙂 That’s alright…more for me!
We eat alot of THM waffles & pancakes, Greek yogurt and oatmeal so this compote is going to be put to good use.
Just a few minutes on the stovetop is all it takes to have a fabulous topping/sauce. So why don’t you try it soon and let me know what you think!
