Winter, Christmas & Updates

Posted on Dec 15, 2017

Hi friends!!  No, I didn’t get lost in a snow drift here in Northeast Ohio.  It has been quite some time since I posted on my blog, so I thought I’d update you on what’s been going on in my life!  I’m so sorry I haven’t posted any new recipes recently…I promise to have a new one up as soon as I can though!  Making healthy recipes for me and my family is important to me, so I will be sharing in the near future.  For now, I hope you don’t mind me sharing a bit about my life in recent months.  I love reading recipe blogs, but I also enjoy knowing a little bit about the blogger I’m following.  Makes it feel like I know them in some small way. 🙂

I have mentioned in previous posts that my little family lives on a Bible college campus.  That being said, there’s always something to do, somewhere to be, someone to talk to, etc.  I used to work at our college bookstore before having children.  Now I am a stay-at-home mom and LOVE every minute of it!  I am also the sponsor of the class of 2019 and if I’m not running back and forth to the grocery stores to keep stocked up on the pop/candy sales, I’m stocking the different stations on campus to keep them supplied with snacks.  I don’t have to tell you how busy that is keeping me this semester, but our class works together and we get er done!!  I absolutely love working with our young people and to be honest, I would rather spend my time with them, my family and the ministry we’re in right now than to be doing anything else!

I’ve been on the road almost every weekend since September with our college singing group.  It’s such a joy to be out and about seeing so many friends every weekend.  My family traveled with a men’s trio this past year…let me tell ya, it was one special year!  I cannot remember having so much fun, and I’ve been traveling myself for 16 years.  After having singing group tryouts many weeks ago, we will now be traveling with a men’s quartet in the coming year.  Yes, all guys!  And since my husband and I have 3 boys, I will be the only female in our group next year!  I’m not too worried though…some of the guys said they’d stop at coffee shops with me.(that’s important you know!)  Along with our traveling schedule, we’ve had parties, banquets, my kids school functions, family gatherings, holiday shopping/baking and much more, but one big project that I sorta started was totally redoing our office/toy room.  It had carpet and brown paneling, but we revamped the whole room.  Hardwood floor was under the carpet so we now have a wood floor.  Walls and ceiling got painted white and old thick blinds got taken down, so lots of sunshine can come through my big windows!  I’m in love!!  My husband and I worked at it for several weeks and I’m so happy with how it turned out.  So that’s a huge project that took quite a bit of my time this fall.

Winter has finally arrived where I live and it’s been snowing the past few days.  My 3 boys play outside as much as they can, but as soon as they come in they are ready for a snack and something warm to drink!  I enjoy making homemade hot chocolate for them as a special treat.  I like to sip on things like my salted caramel mocha java or my sweet cinnamon latte.  Winter is also a time for colds and the flu for so many.  My family rarely gets sick, but we’ve all had the sniffles recently.  Aside from using essential oils, sipping on Good Girl Moonshine, Bone Broth and Singing Canaries, I have found a product that seems to help us get better quicker.  That is Sambucol Elderberry cold and flu tablets.  They dissolve in your mouth.  I give one to each of my boys before bed so it can work while they sleep.  It works for my family so I just wanted throw that out there for you all.

Along with winter comes holiday treats.  I have a few yummy desserts on my blog, but I also love to make a variety of good healthy breads, dinners and desserts for my family.  My husband reminded me the other day that he wants me to make lots of yummy healthy comfort foods during this holiday season.  I’ve already started and they’re enjoying the fruits of my labor…ha!!

As the Christmas season approaches, I want to encourage you all to enjoy as much time as you can with family and friends!  They are our true treasures.  I was reminded not too long ago that a friend of mine is going through her 2nd Christmas without her husband.  These are the times when we must cherish every special moment we have with those we love.   Remember, Christmas is not about getting (though that part is always fun)…it’s about giving!!  I love to give gifts that make people smile.  The best gift of all is Jesus…the true reason we celebrate Christmas.

I wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, from our home to yours!
